Creative Nowhere Land Blog - Creative Evolution Part 2
So a while back I wrote a blog about my Creative Evolution ( https://www.mattwilsonphoto.co.uk/cnl-blog/2019/9/30/creative-nowhere-land-blog-evolution ). I spoke about how the blog was helping me evolve as a creative and also how I’d been thinking about expanding the blog into something more. Well, here we are in the few first weeks of January 2020 and I have done just that! Creative Nowhere Land will have its own website. There I’ve said it! It’s out in the world!
Throughout the time I’ve been blogging, you might have seen a few projects or pieces of work that I have created that AREN’T photography related. You might have also read the post about pigeonholing myself as solely a photographer ( https://www.mattwilsonphoto.co.uk/cnl-blog/2019/11/13/creative-nowhere-land-blog-pigeonholed ) and that actually, and as cheesy as it might sound, I’m starting to recognise myself as a ‘multi-faceted creative’ (coining a term from the Creative Rebels! Check out David and Adams’ podcast if you haven’t already. Link at the end of blog post!). So with that being said Creative Nowhere Land will be a place where anything goes creatively. If I want to work on ideas or projects that might not sit in the realm of my commercial photography then I can and I have a place to share it. If I want to create pieces of art in other mediums, then I can. If I want to write a series of poems, I can! As I said anything goes in Creative Nowhere Land!
Now, this all might sound a little strange to some of you but it’s about an evolution personally and creatively (the clue is in the title!). As a creative, I’ve been making and producing all sorts of pieces of art and writing for years. Usually, just as fun or for some cathartic reason, in most cases with my writing. Most of the stuff that I make either sits on a hard drive or gets binned if it isn’t photography work as I’ve never thought of setting up a place for all of these random collections or pieces to exist. Through writing the blog, talking to lots of fellow creatives, reading books and discovering some great creative podcasts over the last year, I’ve decided that things need to change… So Creative Nowhere Land is coming!
I think for a long time ego and fear have been holding me back! What will other people think? Is any of this work I’m producing any good? Will anyone care? Actually, none of that matters! What matters is starting and creating for me! If you’re a creative then it should be the same for you too. Don’t let what anyone else thinks to hold you back from creating.
I’m thinking of Creative Nowhere Land as a personal creative project on a grand scale! I love photography and it’s not only my passion but also my career and that won’t change. I’m also passionate about lots of other mediums, art forms and all aspects of creativity as well and now I will have an outlet for all of that too. It can be anything I want it to be.
The website might be a little while coming but if you’re interested in following along with this new project then I’ve set up an Instagram account that you can find by searching for @creativenowhereland ( https://www.instagram.com/creativenowhereland/ ) or it is linked in my photography Instagram account bio. My focus is on creating and not really social media but I will try and show a little more of the process of the whole project as I go so give the account a follow if this sounds up your street. If you’re into all things creative then hopefully this project will interest you so stay tuned!
Once again thanks again for reading the blog. Some of you might be thinking ‘What the hell is he on about now?’ and that’s cool! For me though, putting some of this stuff down in writing and sharing it on the blog somehow makes me feel more accountable for my actions and encourages me to push myself further creatively with my goals. When I started the blog that’s exactly what I wanted it to do! Keep me accountable for my creativity and push me to explore new ideas and ways of thinking about not only my photography work but also my creativity as a whole. It has definitely done that and I never thought I would say this but… Blogging is awesome!
Until next week folks! Have a great week and keep creating!
