Creative Nowhere Land Blog - Embrace some colour!

It’s going to be a quick blog post this time, as it’s been a busy week in the world of this UK based photographer.  A couple of commercial shoots, a location recce, a meeting or three, an inspiring talk from a well known face in the advertising and creative industry (more on that in a later blog… possibly?) and then a mountain of admin and post-production work, has meant there has been very little time to think about the next interesting subject for the blog. I racked my brain and had a think about what to bore you, I mean entertain you this week… So here it goes!

I said I was going to bring it more up to date, in last weeks blog, so I have decided to talk about one of the shoots that I have done this week.  It made sense as it was fresh in my mind?!  The lovely, Ellie Ryan, from RMG Models ( https://www.rmg-models.co.uk/), booked in with me for an update to her portfolio to get some fresh and new shots to bring a little more life to her book.

Ellie and I sat down with Gaby Hunt, our brilliant makeup artist, and had a cuppa (maybe even a biscuit or two) and a chat about what her portfolio was missing and some possible images that could do with being added to bring that ‘life’ that we spoke about.  Despite Ellie having the most incredible curly red hair, there was very little colour in her portfolio, and as I looked at my portfolio it dawned on me that there wasn’t actually much colour in my work either!  So we all set about changing that with this shoot!

I think this is much the same in photography too, or it was in this case! The minute Ellie saw the bold colours we were going to use, you could see her mood lift. The colours were energising and had a real sense of fun, and as Mr Van Gogh, so eloquently, put it… ‘enthusiasm’!  Ellie translated that perfectly with tonnes of personality and expression, and the whole team, including Ellie’s model agency, were very happy with the final shots that we created.

Here are a few more images from the shoot and a little about the equipment I used to create these fun and fresh looking, commercial beauty shots. I will do a more detailed blog post about the equipment and lighting a bit later down the line possibly as I know that the technical stuff is something a lot of people might find interesting. I might even throw in a few behind the scenes images, who knows ha ha?
