Something awesome happened this week! If you keep track of the blog then you’ll know that over the last few months I’ve been exploring some other avenues of my creativity away from photography. Creative Nowhere Land has become a place where I feel freer to create outside of photography alone. I’ve been making digital illustrations and collages for a while now but have only recently started to post any of them online or to social media. Anyway, recently I posted a collage that I’d made to the @creativenowhereland Instagram account. I don’t have much of a following on social media but to my surprise and excitement, someone saw the piece and dropped me a message asking if they could buy a print!
As a creative, this is the best feeling! Someone likes your work enough that they want to own it. I’ve sold photography pieces many times but this is the first collage I’ve sold as part of the new Creative Nowhere Land so I’ve been buzzing! Of course, I was happy to oblige and the piece has just come off the printer and will be carefully packaged and shipped off to sunny Manchester, where the buyer lives, in the next couple of days.
The piece was a simple digital collage that I’d made a while ago that’s part of a collection of images based on quotes from inspiring women. I’d had the idea when I friend decided to send me a load of these quotes during a very deep and meaningful Whatsapp chat about life and a whole heap of other things. In my mind, they were a bit of fun and a chance for me to be creative. You never know what will resonate with people though and the person that contacted me instantly recognised the quote from Dolly Parton. She must have been a fan maybe? I just loved the quote when I was sent it so decided to make something creative from it. I guess that’s the Power of Art!
I just thought I’d share this as it made my week! Being a creative person isn’t limited to any one medium. There are so many avenues that you can explore and that you should explore when looking into your own creativity. All of these experiments and playing with ideas only open you up to more ideas, inspiration and ways of creating which can only be a good thing.
Thank you to the buyer of the piece for making my week! I expect to see pictures of it hanging pride of place somewhere in your house very soon.
More creativity related than photography this week but I’m deep in a busy week of portrait shooting that I can’t show you any of so this wonderful art lover wanting to buy a piece of my work seemed like a great blog topic for the week! If you want to see a little more of this sort of work head over to @creativenowhereland on Instagram and keep an eye out for more coming soon on https://www.creativenowhereland.com/.
