It’s going to be another short blog post this week in comparison to last weeks lengthy number. I have been in London working, for the early part of the week, so time has been a little limited, especially for thinking about and composing another blog post. With that being said, here is what I came up with for your entertainment and viewing pleasure…
I’m keeping it nice and simple again this week! I thought I would simply share some of my favourite images from a recent lingerie shoot with, the lovely, Maria Gardner, wearing some of the latest Pretty Polly Collection (https://www.prettypolly.co.uk/).
For this shoot, I used my, trusty, Elinchrom lighting kit (https://www.elinchrom.com/) to achieve that soft light look that works so well for lingerie shoots, but I also wanted to introduce some texture and interest into the background.
Oh, look! And as if by magic! A concrete wall! That’ll work!
Concrete is cool! It just is! Well to me it is anyway! I love using concrete as a background. It’s so versatile! Depending on the background you find, concrete can look grungy and moody or you can light it to look clean, expensive and add some depth and texture to a shot, as I have done here.
So what’s with this fancy ‘Rose that grew…’ title I hear you ask? Well… let’s face it! I couldn’t have just called the blog post ‘Concrete is Cool’ now could I? So I gave it a ‘fancy’ title!
The title actually comes from a really beautiful poem, by Tupac Shakur. Yeah, that’s right! The rapper! (If you don’t know who Tupac was; he was an American rapper, writer, actor and poet. He is considered by many to be one of the greatest rappers of all time.) I’m a big hip hop fan and I came across his writing and poetry through being a fan of his music and films. This is the poem…
“Did you hear about the rose that grew
from a crack in the concrete?
Proving nature’s law is wrong it
learned to walk with out having feet.
Funny it seems, but by keeping its dreams,
it learned to breathe fresh air.
Long live the rose that grew from concrete
when no one else ever cared.”
It’s pretty inspiring, isn't it? You’re welcome haha!
Anyway enough about the ‘fancy’ title! Photography, a beautiful lingerie model and a little bit of culture from the poetry! What more could you want from a blog post from a commercial photographer?
Anyway, thanks again for taking the time to check out the blog. I do appreciate it! Have a browse around the rest of the website while you’re here. I would love to hear from you if there are any topics that you would like me to try and cover in future posts. Until next time. Have a great week!
