For a few months now I’ve been working with a couple of guys who run a successful networking event in Birmingham called ‘The Breakfast Club’, Gurdas Singh and Omar Rashid. They wanted to raise the profile of their event so they got me in to start documenting their monthly gathering of the whos who of the Birmingham business world. We built a great working relationship straight away despite us all supporting rival football teams haha! ‘A Spurs fan, an Arsenal fan and a Chelsea fan walk into a networking event…’ I’m not sure how that joke is supposed to end but I digress…
Gurdas and Omar have big plans for ‘The Breakfast Club’ and they asked me to sit down with them at the end of last year to discuss some ideas of how to start 2020 with a fresh new look and some really strong visuals to push their event even further for the new year. I presented a few ideas to them around the idea of ‘The Breakfast Club’ and they decided on one that we could work on and that gave us scope to create other images that could be used for teasers or any other advertising of the event.
Last week we got together to shoot the idea and create some imagery to promote ‘The Breakfast Club’ and it’s the first event of the year which is on the 26th February 2020. I can’t share any of the final shots of the guys as they want to do their own big reveal but I thought I could share with you the idea sketches as well as some of the other images created to market ‘The Breakfast Club’.
As ever I made one of my terribly drawn sketches to map out the idea. I should really work on my drawing skills if I’m going to share these but you get the idea I hope from the sketch. To make the shots a little more ‘networking’ based I had the idea of rebranding some of the cereal boxes with new titles. Luckily, Gurdas is quite the designer and he came back with a series of completely new networking based cereal box designs. We were all set and had sourced all of our breakfast based props ready for the shoot. The lighting plan was drawn out (see Technical below) and it was time to get Omar and Gurdas in front of the camera.
The guys soon got into the shoot and were embracing their new roles in front of the camera with loads of energy, fun and a little bit of light-hearted bickering thrown in for good measure. The shots look great and I’m sure I will be sharing some of them in the future but for now, I’ll share a few (not all) of the images that we got without the guys in.
We wanted to get some other images that could be used for marketing so we made the most of the designs that Gurdas created and got some still life images that you can see below. The guys had got their new logo created by designer Sarah Moss and they sent it over to me so I could do the layouts of their teaser add options over the final images. Here are a few of the finished teaser shots.
‘Pitch Pops’ and ‘Business Bran’ coming to a supermarket or networking event near you soon haha!
Keep a lookout for the final shots from ‘The Breakfast Club’ shoot in the coming weeks. The guys want to do their own big reveal as I said earlier and they’re the client. The shots are great and I’m really happy with them and more importantly, the guys had great fun and got some new creative shots to move ‘The Breakfast Club’ forward in the coming months.
It’s always great to work with people who appreciate the value of creative and want to do something a little different to the norm for their business or brand. In a sea of content these days it’s important to stand out.
Until next week! Stay creative!
