So back in June of 2018, I decided I was going to revisit a project that I did back when I was at university. It was a classic university/college project and the first project of my second year, way back in 2003 (that’s a long time ago!). The self-portrait!

For a couple of years now I’ve been volunteering for, Birmingham based charity, Let’s Feed Brum. Every Monday night I grab my volunteer lanyard and head out to Old Square in the city centre to help the rest of the ‘Monday Night Crew’ (Official Shout Out!) give out hot meals, supplies and, sometimes, more importantly, to be a friendly face and someone to talk to. It’s not something I shout a lot about for fear of being ‘that guy’, but it feels good to help even if it’s a just little. Also, since meeting and becoming friends with Bob, who you might have read about in a previous post I felt like I needed to do something more to help…

Let’s face it, it’s that time of year where it’s almost impossible to avoid the topic of setting goals or resolutions! Maybe you’re reflecting on the past year and now looking forward to the things that you want to accomplish in the coming year…

He was the man that took the photograph that ‘gave birth to the supermodels’ of the 90s, Peter Lindbergh. A simple shot that was taken in the Meat Packing District of New York in 1989, that did away with all of the relative excess and glamour of the 1980s and helped defined a more natural aesthetic for the coming 1990s. The image helped propel these 5 models to pop culture stardom and it became one of many images that helped define Lindbergh’s incredible creative career…

Now, it might not look like it from this picture but this man was, and quite possibly still is, a lethal weapon. This is Andy Powell and Andy is an ex elite SAS soldier. I was asked to shoot some portraits of Andy for giffgaff a couple of months ago and I have been meaning to share a little more about the shoot. Andy is now a very successful businessman and was invited into giffgaff HQ to talk about his inspiring story to the company…

I was asked recently by one of the blog readers, to do a little bit more behind the scenes stuff and to also explain how some of the images are created. So I thought I would use these recent portraits and go into a little more detail about how they were done…

The Rugby World Cup 2019, in Japan, has kicked off! As I write this, it’s a rainy Sunday morning in the UK and I’m sat in front of the TV watching England play their opening game against Tonga. How’s that for multi-tasking? Blogging while enjoying my Sunday…

I have a heavy heart this week! My dear friend Bob sadly had to say goodbye to his best friend and canine companion of 12 years, Skip. Skip passed away early on Friday morning with Bob by his side as he had always been. If you have read my previous blog post about these two characters, ‘This is Bob…’ you may understand why this loss is so painful for Bob and anyone that ever crossed paths with Skip. Bob is obviously heartbroken but staying positive as Bob always does!

Barcelona is one of my favourite cities in the world. I’m not sure what it is, but I just feel at ease there. Earlier this year I went to Barcelona, but this time I decided to go alone! It may sound strange to a lot of people but I actually really like travelling alone, you can really get a sense and feel of a place. Wandering the streets of Barcelona on this trip really confirmed my love for this incredible city and culture…

If you have followed me for a while on social media you may already know the story of Bob and Skip. I met Bob in 2015 when I had a photography studio in Birmingham, United Kingdom. This is the story of how we met one another and the Facebook post that I shared in June of the same year (with Bobs permission of course)…
‘This is Bob…
Bob is not an alcoholic, Bob is not a drug addict but Bob does live on the streets!!
I met Bob a couple of weeks ago in Birmingham while he was sat, with his trusty sidekick, Skip, reading his book in the sunshine…

In my opinion, it doesn’t matter what kind of photographer you are, whether you're a commercial photographer, a portrait photographer, a fashion photographer or even a hobbyist photographer it doesn’t matter, I would always recommend working on personal projects.
When you work in the photography industry, especially in advertising, you can often find yourself…

Who am I? What a deep question! I promise it’s not quite as philosophical as it sounds!
In the first post I rambled on about the reasons why I started a blog, being accountable for my own creativity yadda yadda! (Hopefully you read it and if not, shame on you!) So in this blog post I thought I better tell you a little about me, my photography background and how I got started in the photography industry. So sit back, get comfortable as this could be a very long blog post!
‘A long time ago in a galaxy far far…
